Fatal East St. Louis officer-involved shooting death of Rachel Tarrence – Obituary
Rachel Tarrence, 40, of Mayville, Illinois, was killed Sunday night in an officer-involved shooting in East St. Louis, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near a convenience store in the 4500 block of South State Street. Illinois State Police said troopers were attempting to stop a vehicle reported stolen when Tarrence put the vehicle in reverse, striking an ISP squad car. The vehicle then moved toward a trooper, prompting the officer to discharge their firearm.
Tarrence was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No troopers were injured during the shooting.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative status pending the outcome of the investigation, in accordance with standard protocol. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding Tarrence’s death.
