Altoona, Pennsylvania Man Corey Lopez Arrested in Altoona for Homicide Following Bar Fight

ALTOONA, PA — Corey Lopez, an Altoona resident whose age was not released, was arrested in Altoona in connection with a fatal fight that occurred outside a local bar over the weekend.

According to the Altoona Police Department, Lopez was taken into custody on Jan. 4 outside the Kettle Inn on South Kettle Street after officers responded to reports of a fight in progress. Authorities say the incident involved a large brawl, during which Lopez allegedly continued fighting multiple people as bystanders attempted to intervene.

Police allege that during the altercation, Lopez struck another man who collapsed to the ground and became unresponsive. The victim, later identified as 41-year-old James Dunn, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators said the fight ended after someone fired a single gunshot into the air; no one was injured by the gunfire.

Officers reported that while attempting to speak with Lopez outside the bar, he allegedly shoved an officer and was subsequently arrested. Police also noted that Lopez is a boxer affiliated with a gym in Altoona.

Lopez was transported to the Blair County Prison and is currently facing multiple charges, including homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, obstruction of justice, resisting arrest, and other related offenses. Court records indicate that bail was denied, and he remains incarcerated while awaiting a preliminary hearing later this month.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Detective Heuston at 814-949-2524 or Detective Angermeier at 814-949-2493.
