Gary Herendeen, 74, was shot and killed behind a furniture store in Indian Land, South Carolina, authorities reported. Deputies from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office responded after the victim’s body was discovered Monday morning by a delivery driver behind Designer’s Marketplace, where Herendeen had worked part-time for nearly five years.

Store owner Tracy Holman described Herendeen as a dependable and positive employee who frequently helped with deliveries, assembling furniture, and other tasks. Employees said they were shocked by the incident and expressed hope for closure for Herendeen’s family.

Lancaster County authorities, working in coordination with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, are investigating the shooting.
