Fatal Bronx, New York stabbing death of George Ennin – Obituary

George Ennin, 53, was brutally killed in an unprovoked stabbing attack Monday afternoon while walking to work along Third Avenue near East 157th Street in the Melrose section of the Bronx, according to police.

Investigators say Ennin had just returned from a month-long visit to his home country of Ghana and was heading to his job as a security guard shortly before 2 p.m. Surveillance footage shows him walking past the 42nd Precinct moments before encountering a man approaching from the opposite direction.

Video evidence indicates the suspect attempted to kick Ennin without warning. Ennin blocked the initial attack, causing the suspect to stumble. The assailant then regained his balance, pulled out a knife, and chased Ennin down the sidewalk.

Authorities say Ennin backed away but tripped on uneven pavement and fell. He was stabbed during the attack. Despite his injuries, Ennin managed to stand up and walk several steps while searching for help before collapsing less than a minute later.

Neighbors described Ennin as a devoted father of two daughters who raised them on his own and was deeply respected in the community. Residents said he was known for his kindness, professionalism, and pride in his appearance.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Ennin succumbed to his injuries. The suspect fled and remains at large. Police believe the attacker did not know Ennin and that the assault was random.

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect, who was last seen wearing a jacket with a fur-lined collar and large white lettering. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities as the investigation continues.
