Fatal Riverdale, Illinois car crash death of Harriet Reynolds – Obituary

Harriet Reynolds, 72, was killed on New Year’s Eve after being struck and run over by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Riverdale gas station, according to police.

The Riverdale Police Department said officers were called to the 100 block of East 146th Street around 4:42 p.m. on Dec. 31 following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Investigators determined that a white Kia traveling through the gas station lot hit Reynolds as she was walking across the area.

Police say the impact knocked Reynolds to the ground, and she was then run over by the vehicle. She suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

Authorities allege the driver, identified as Barry Lewis, exited the vehicle and moved Reynolds from underneath it. Police further claim Lewis initially stayed at the scene and gave a false statement, telling officers he was not involved in the incident before leaving the area.

Through surveillance footage and witness statements, detectives later concluded that Lewis was the driver responsible for the fatal crash. After repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful, investigators contacted his attorney, who later presented Lewis to detectives. Police said Lewis refused to cooperate with the investigation.

Lewis has been charged with obstruction of justice, driving while his license was revoked, and causing death. The vehicle involved is being examined for additional evidence related to the case.

Lewis is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing Wednesday at the Markham Courthouse as the investigation continues.
