Fatal Altoona bar fight death of James Dunn – Obituary

James Dunn, 41, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, was killed during a fight outside the Kettle Inn on Jan. 4, authorities reported. The Altoona Police Department said officers were called to the bar on South Kettle Street for a disturbance and found that Dunn had been struck during the altercation, collapsing and becoming unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police charged 31-year-old Corey Lopez, a local boxer, with homicide in connection with Dunn’s death. Lopez is also facing multiple additional charges, including aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. The fight reportedly escalated despite bystanders attempting to intervene, and a gunshot was fired into the air during the incident, though no one was struck.

Lopez was taken into custody after allegedly shoving an officer and remains held at Blair County Prison with bail denied. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month. Authorities continue to investigate the case and are seeking information from the public, urging anyone with details to contact Detective Heuston at 814-949-2524 or Detective Angermeier at 814-949-2493.
