Muhammad Qamar, 22, of Brooklyn, lost his life early Monday morning in a single-vehicle accident on the Heckscher State Parkway in East Islip, according to the New York State Police. Troopers reported responding to the crash at approximately 5:43 a.m., near the point where the Heckscher State Parkway transitions into the Southern State Parkway.

Authorities said Qamar’s car collided with multiple trees before overturning, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A relative of Qamar declined to comment on the tragedy when contacted by Newsday.

State police indicated that the investigation is ongoing, but initial information suggests that excessive speed was likely the main contributing factor in the crash.
