Ronnie Metcalf, a 70-year-old resident of West Sacramento, was killed in a small plane crash on Christmas Eve near Rio Linda, California. Sacramento County officials confirmed his identity on Wednesday following the tragic accident.
Metcalf was a passenger aboard a 1966 single-engine aircraft that departed from Rio Linda Airport and later crashed in a large field west of Sacramento McClellan Airport. Fire crews found him trapped inside the wreckage and had to cut him free to transport him to an ambulance. Although firefighters briefly revived his pulse through CPR, Metcalf ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have not released the exact time of death. The Federal Aviation Administration is reviewing the incident as part of its ongoing investigation into the crash.
