Fatal Portland, Oregon motorcycle crash death of Stephen W. Hicks – Obituary
Stephen W. Hicks, 66, was killed following a collision involving a motorcycle and an e-scooter in Portland’s Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood, according to Portland police.
Officers were dispatched just before 5 p.m. on January 2 to the area near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Tibbetts Street after reports of a serious crash. Portland Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced Hicks dead.
Investigators said Hicks was traveling north in a bike lane on a gas-powered mini motorcycle when he collided with a man riding an e-scooter southbound in the same lane. Police believe the e-scooter rider had been traveling against the designated direction of the bike lane at the time of the crash.
The e-scooter rider was transported to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. Authorities noted that both individuals were wearing helmets, and there is no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident.
The Portland Police Bureau’s Traffic Investigations Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police by email and reference case number 26-1563.
