Fatal Denver, Colorado shooting death of William Rodriguez Salas — Obituary
William Rodriguez Salas, 16, was killed and another injured victim later succumbed to their wounds following a late-night shooting at an outdoor gathering in southeast Denver that was intended to celebrate news of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s capture, police said.
Denver officers were called to the 10100 block of East Hampden Avenue around 10:48 p.m. Saturday after reports of gunfire erupted outside a strip mall during an event where a crowd had gathered.
Authorities confirmed that Salas, who was among the four males shot, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other males — adults aged 26, 29 and 33 — were also wounded and taken to area hospitals. On Tuesday, police announced that one of the injured adults is not expected to survive, while the other victims remain hospitalized.
Investigators said the celebration was connected to the recent U.S. detention of Maduro earlier that day. Details on the number of people present at the gathering or what led up to the shooting have not been released.
No arrests have been made so far, and law enforcement continues to search for the person or persons responsible as the investigation moves forward.
