Authorities in Charleston County have confirmed the identity of a man who lost his life in a single-vehicle accident in the Meggett area. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office said the victim was 32-year-old Robert Sherard.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the intersection of Toogoodoo Road and Swinton Creek Road. Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports that a vehicle had left the roadway.

Investigators determined the car struck a tree, after which it caught fire and quickly became engulfed in flames. Emergency medical personnel from Charleston County EMS arrived at the location and pronounced Sherard dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
