Authorities have released additional information following a deadly traffic collision that shut down a section of U.S. 60 Wednesday evening in the Glasgow area of Kanawha County.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of East Dupont Avenue in the community of London. Investigators said a white Kia Optima was traveling west when it pulled off to the right side of the road and stopped for a short time.
Deputies reported that the driver then attempted to make a U-turn to reenter the roadway. During that maneuver, the Kia was struck by a westbound pickup truck, which collided with the driver’s side of the car upon impact.
The driver of the Kia was identified as Sharon Williams, 65, of Hansford. She was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
A six-year-old child who was riding in the Kia was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Deputies noted that the child was seated in the front passenger seat and was not using a booster seat as required by law.
The two people inside the pickup truck were also transported by emergency medical crews for treatment of minor injuries.
Officials stated that no charges are expected at this time. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
