Fatal Cadillac, Michigan shooting death of Steve Billett – Obituary

Steve Billett was killed during a violent home invasion and armed robbery at a residence in Cadillac, Michigan, authorities confirmed. Steve Billett died on Friday, January 2, according to information released by Michigan State Police.

Investigators said the deadly incident occurred at a home in the northern Michigan community, where Billett was confronted during a break-in that escalated into a robbery. Law enforcement later located a suspect believed to be responsible for the crime, leading to a second fatal encounter.

Police reported that the suspect, a 57-year-old man whose identity has not been made public, was stopped by a Cadillac police officer after being seen driving a vehicle matching the description of one stolen during the home invasion. During the traffic stop, officials say the man pulled out a firearm and aimed it at the officer.

The officer responded by firing his weapon, fatally wounding the suspect. Authorities believe the man was attempting to flee the scene of Billett’s killing when he was stopped roughly an hour after the home invasion was reported.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigations into both deaths. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave while the review process is ongoing, in line with standard procedure.
