William Hastings was killed after becoming trapped beneath a tractor-trailer at a work site in East Windsor, Connecticut, according to police. William Hastings, 69, a resident of East Windsor, was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday evening.

Authorities said officers were called to a construction company on North Road around 6:45 p.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive man pinned under a car carrier. When police arrived, they found Hastings lodged beneath the right side of the truck cab, caught between the dual rear wheels.

Firefighters from East Windsor and Enfield responded to assist in freeing him from under the vehicle. Despite their efforts, emergency medical personnel pronounced Hastings dead shortly after he was removed.

Investigators determined that Hastings, who was employed by the company, had been performing maintenance work beneath the truck when it unexpectedly rolled backward, trapping him underneath. Officials said there were no signs of foul play or criminal activity.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration responded to the scene to begin a separate investigation into the incident. Police said the case remains under review as safety officials continue their assessment.
