Authorities have identified Juan Geraldo Garcia as the man who died in a single-vehicle crash on Yakima Valley Highway near Wapato on Saturday night.

According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Garcia, a resident of the Yakima area, was driving southbound when his vehicle left the road and struck a mailbox. Responding units arrived at the 1400 block of Yakima Valley Highway around 11:23 p.m. after a neighbor reported the accident.

The vehicle had rolled onto its roof in a ditch. Garcia, who was wearing a seatbelt, was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation. Sheriff’s Office spokesman Casey Schilperoot noted that this was the first fatal collision on county roads in 2026, following 15 fatal crashes in 2025.
