Leonel Benavides Jr., a 41-year-old man from Laredo, was identified as the victim who lost his life in a deadly semi truck collision that occurred Thursday morning in Temple. Authorities confirmed his identity after investigating the crash along Interstate 35.

According to reports, Benavides Jr. was driving a commercial semi northbound on I-35 near the Midway Drive area when his truck collided with the back of another semi that had come to a stop due to traffic congestion. The traffic backup was caused by a separate crash ahead on the interstate.

Officials said the earlier incident involved two passenger vehicles and also resulted in a fatality. However, no additional injuries were reported in the semi truck collision involving Benavides Jr.
