BLOOMINGTON, Illinois — Authorities have identified a Bloomington man who lost his life following a serious traffic collision Wednesday afternoon. The McLean County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 40-year-old Matthew J. Moritz died after suffering multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.
Police said the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the intersection of East Oakland Avenue and Old Farm Road, an area near the Central Illinois Regional Airport. Investigators determined that the crash involved a motorcycle operated by Moritz and a sport utility vehicle.
An off-duty police officer and bystanders attempted to provide emergency assistance at the scene before Moritz was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV was not seriously hurt. Toxicology testing for Moritz is pending, and Bloomington police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
