Fatal Bakersfield Highway 99 crash death of Jared Jon Harper – Obituary

Jared Jon Harper, 47, of Bakersfield, tragically passed away after being struck by two vehicles on Highway 99 near Taft Highway on December 29, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 2:32 a.m., when Harper was walking southbound in the number three lane of the highway. Authorities reported that the first vehicle involved in the crash left the scene before CHP arrived.

An initial investigation revealed that Harper was hit by an unknown vehicle, which continued southbound, fleeing after striking him. Moments later, a Honda traveling in the same lane also collided with Harper, who was lying unresponsive in the road. The driver of the Honda was unable to avoid the crash but stopped immediately after the collision. Emergency responders arrived and pronounced Harper dead at the scene due to the severe injuries he sustained. The Honda driver cooperated with authorities.
