Fatal Tucson officer-involved shooting death of Leana Estrada – Obituary
Leana Estrada, a 34-year-old woman from Tucson, was killed in an officer-involved shooting in midtown Tucson on December 29, 2025. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team reported that Tucson Police officers responded to a call around 10 p.m. regarding shots fired and a woman yelling in the 1900 block of South Montezuma Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Estrada in a yard holding a firearm. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, she pointed it at the officers, prompting the officers to open fire. Estrada was struck and immediately received medical attention from officers until Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived. She was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. Officers Chase Bryan, with three years of service, and Dennis Simmons, with nearly two years on the force, were involved in the shooting.
