Fatal Toronto GO Bus Terminal shooting death of Osemwengie Irorere – Obituary

Osemwengie Irorere, a 46-year-old Nigerian national, was killed in a shooting at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Toronto Police reported that both Irorere and the suspect boarded a bus at the terminal when the suspect opened fire, striking Irorere before fleeing on foot.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Irorere was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later apprehended 40-year-old Tyrel Gibson of Toronto and recovered a firearm. Gibson has been charged with First Degree Murder and was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre the following day.

Authorities confirmed that this is Toronto’s first homicide of 2026 and emphasized the serious concerns it raises about gun violence in public transit areas. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
