Fatal Johnston County, North Carolina car crash death of Alexis Quintanilla – Obituary

Alexis Quintanilla, 28, of Smithfield, was killed early Sunday in a high-speed, single-vehicle crash in Johnston County, North Carolina. The deadly accident occurred just after 1:45 a.m. on Powhatan Road near Pocahontas Trail, roughly two miles northwest of Wilson’s Mills.

Authorities reported that Quintanilla was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger Hellcat at speeds exceeding 100 mph when the vehicle struck a tree and caught fire. Emergency crews responding to the scene initially believed there were five occupants, but a search revealed only Quintanilla and a female passenger.

Quintanilla was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman suffered life-threatening injuries, including burns covering more than 20 percent of her body. She was first transported to WakeMed and later transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill for further treatment. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and spent roughly 30 minutes recovering Quintanilla’s body from the wrecked vehicle.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol cited excessive speed as a contributing factor in the crash. Powhatan Road was closed for several hours while crews from Wilson’s Mills Fire Department and Clayton Rescue 1 managed the scene. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
