Logan Quintal, a 20-year-old resident of Hilo, was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident, becoming Hawaii County’s first traffic fatality of 2026. Logan Quintal’s death followed a crash that occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Mahiai Street near Ahuna Road, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Police reported that Quintal was driving a 2017 Jeep Renegade eastbound when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, struck a pile of rocks, and overturned. Responding officers found Quintal unresponsive at the scene.

Emergency crews attempted lifesaving efforts, but Quintal was pronounced dead at approximately 2:20 p.m. Authorities have ordered an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. The crash remains under active investigation as officials work to determine what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
