Michael Duncan, 35, was killed Sunday evening in a violent three-vehicle collision on Interstate 71 in Delaware County, Ohio. Michael Duncan’s death occurred in Berkshire Township near the U.S. 36/State Route 37 interchange close to the Tanger Outlets, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 5 p.m. when Duncan was driving a black Hyundai Tucson northbound on I-71. Investigators reported that the vehicle went out of control, crossed the median, overturned, struck a cable barrier, and then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound. The Hyundai came to rest in the middle of the southbound lanes, while the Chevrolet was forced off the left side of the roadway.

Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Hyundai, a 38-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver and a passenger in the Chevrolet were also hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash.

A third vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound, was struck by debris from the collision. The occupants of that vehicle were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Authorities stated that Duncan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while all other individuals involved were properly restrained. The incident led to the closure of all southbound lanes of I-71 for approximately three hours as crews worked the scene. The cause of the loss of control remains under investigation, with multiple agencies assisting in the response.
