Fatal Pennington County, South Dakota car crash death of Echo Orion Calatrello – Obituary
Echo Orion Calatrello, a 22-year-old from Sturgis, South Dakota, was killed late Saturday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred north of Hill City in Pennington County, according to authorities.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol said the wreck happened at approximately 10:12 p.m. along U.S. Highway 385 near mile marker 92, roughly 10 miles north of Hill City. Investigators reported that a Toyota 4Runner traveling southbound left the roadway, overcorrected, and rolled multiple times before stopping in an east-side ditch.
Calatrello and another 22-year-old passenger, Nicholas Lord Jackson Jr. of Deadwood, were both ejected from the vehicle during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials stated that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
Authorities have not yet determined which of the two victims was driving when the vehicle crashed. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the rollover as the investigation remains ongoing.
Community members have organized fundraising efforts to assist the families with funeral expenses as they mourn the sudden loss.
