Fatal I-95, Maine crash deaths of James Brown and Dwayne Campbell – Obituary

James Brown, 60, and Dwayne Campbell, 51, were killed in a chain-reaction crash while working on a bridge on I-95 southbound near mile marker 127 in Waterville, Maine.

Authorities said the incident occurred just after 9:30 a.m. as Maine Department of Transportation workers were performing construction with lanes closed and safety cones in place.

A gray Kia minivan, driven by 34-year-old Samantha Tupper of Augusta, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and attempted to merge into the passing lane.

The minivan was struck by a tractor-trailer, which pushed it into the work zone, striking the workers. Brown and Campbell were thrown from the bridge and pronounced dead at the scene.

A third worker sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and Tupper was also hospitalized with minor injuries. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the crash.
