Fatal Centertown, Kentucky house fire death of Nathan Wollen – Obituary

Nathan Wollen, 43, of Centertown, Kentucky, was killed in a house fire on Sunday evening, January 11, 2026. The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department reported that the fire began around 2 p.m., though it was not discovered until a passerby called for help later in the afternoon. Fire crews arrived roughly 30 minutes after the flames started and found the structure fully involved.

Wollen was not immediately located, prompting deputies to search the surrounding area. His body was eventually found near the front of the home around 8:30 p.m., after the fire had been contained. Preliminary findings suggest Wollen died from carbon monoxide poisoning and may have passed away before the fire ignited.

Officials said the blaze was likely triggered by a malfunctioning kerosene heater at the front of the residence. The home’s remote location contributed to the delay in reporting and complicated firefighting efforts. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances and are monitoring the property for any remaining hot spots. This incident marks the second fatal house fire in Ohio County since March 2025.
