Authorities in Euclid, Ohio, confirmed the death of 37-year-old Robert J. Riddlebarger following a police-involved shooting Sunday night in the 1400 block of East 219th Street.

The incident, which occurred during a domestic violence call, ended with Riddlebarger being pronounced dead at a local hospital after officers attempted life-saving measures at the scene. No law enforcement personnel were injured.

 

Euclid police responded after a woman reported that her child was in the home with Riddlebarger, who had access to multiple firearms. Officers attempted to have him exit the residence peacefully, including knocking on the door and using a loudspeaker.

When Riddlebarger did not comply, officers entered the home. Riddlebarger confronted them with a loaded rifle, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon.

 

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the probe into the shooting at the request of the Euclid Police Department. In accordance with department policy, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

Officials have withheld certain details, including the officer’s identity, specific evidence, and body-camera footage, to maintain investigative integrity.

 

Euclid authorities stressed that the community faces no ongoing threat and that the department is committed to a thorough, transparent review of the incident. Details about the relationship between Riddlebarger, the female victim, and the child have not been disclosed.
