Fatal Lexington County pedestrian crash death of Russell Keith Coufal of Lexington, South Carolina – Obituary

Authorities have identified Russell Keith Coufal, 73, of Lexington, as the pedestrian who was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle along Platt Springs Road.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office said the collision occurred around 6:45 a.m. in the 5400 block of Platt Springs Road in the Lexington area. Investigators reported that Coufal was attempting to cross the roadway when he was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound.

Coufal suffered severe injuries in the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner Margaret Fisher.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are jointly investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
