Fatal Salt Lake City shooting death of Tyson Scott Babb – Obituary

SALT LAKE CITY — Tyson Scott Babb, 42, was shot and killed early Tuesday morning while allegedly attempting to steal a bicycle near the 7-Eleven at 776 S. 1300 East. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, the shooting occurred when Babb was confronted by a 23-year-old man, who shot Babb as he attempted to ride away on the alleged shooter’s bike.

The alleged shooter contacted 911 just before 5 a.m., stating that he had shot Babb, who then got into the passenger side of his white truck. Minutes later, Babb was dropped off at a local hospital, where he was declared dead from a gunshot wound to his upper back.

Police later found shell casings at the scene and a broken bike lock near the home where the shooting took place. The shooter, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.
