Fatal Cameron County, Texas bee attack death of Adrian De La Rosa – Obituary
Adrian De La Rosa lost his life after being attacked by a swarm of bees while working at a property in Cameron County, according to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. The deadly incident occurred in the 17000 block of Louisiana Road during the afternoon hours.
Deputies said they were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:21 p.m. after receiving a report of a man being attacked by bees. When law enforcement arrived, De La Rosa was found motionless and covered by a large swarm.
Investigators spoke with a witness who explained that tree-trimming work was underway at the location. De La Rosa was operating a boom lift when he accidentally struck a portion of a tree that contained a hive, triggering an immediate and aggressive swarm.
Authorities said the bees attacked De La Rosa as he tried to lower the lift. By the time the equipment reached the ground, he was completely covered in bees and collapsed shortly afterward. The witness attempted to use bee spray to drive the swarm away, but the effort was unsuccessful.
Santa Rosa police officers arrived first but were unable to leave their vehicles due to the severity of the swarm. Firefighters later responded and used water hoses to disperse the bees from De La Rosa.
Emergency medical personnel examined De La Rosa and determined he had no pulse. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains documented by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.
