Fatal Southfield, Michigan shooting death of Alex Fields – Obituary
Alex Fields, 33, was shot and killed early Saturday morning outside Bloom Southfield, a local bar, during what began as a domestic dispute at a birthday celebration. Alex Fields was pronounced dead at the scene, while another person was injured during the incident.
According to witnesses and bar staff, an argument in the parking lot escalated when Fields allegedly drew a firearm during an altercation with a security guard who was attempting to intervene. Security footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting. The guard involved was taken into custody briefly but has since been released.
Fields’ father, Alan Fields, described her as a joyful and intelligent individual who excelled in academics and sports, notably playing basketball for Bloomfield Hills Andover High School and Eastern Michigan University. Fields was a member of Eastern Michigan University’s 2012 MAC championship women’s basketball team and graduated in 2015. She was also deeply committed to social justice work with the Neighborhood Defender Service of the Detroit Public Defender’s Office.
The shooting has raised safety concerns in the surrounding community. Bar owners have announced plans to enhance security measures, including additional signage and a parking lot attendant, to prevent future incidents. Southfield police are awaiting a charging decision from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and plan to provide further updates once a decision is made.
