Fatal Benson County, North Dakota car crash death of Daniel Stave – Obituary

Daniel Stave, a 72-year-old resident of Leeds, lost his life following a collision on U.S. Highway 2 in Benson County. Daniel Stave was driving westbound when his pickup truck struck the back of a semi-truck on Monday morning.

The two-vehicle crash happened at about 10:12 a.m., roughly six miles east of Leeds, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Investigators said Stave was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado when it collided with a 2007 International semi-truck hauling a fully loaded hopper-bottom trailer. The semi-truck, driven by a 34-year-old man from Fessenden, had just merged onto westbound U.S. Highway 2 from Highway 281 and was gaining speed at the time of impact.

Stave suffered severe injuries in the crash and was taken to CHI St. Alexius Health Devils Lake Hospital, where he later died. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The semi-truck driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt in the incident.

Officials reported that the roadway was wet, though weather conditions were clear and dry when the crash occurred. The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
