Fatal Slaton, Texas shooting death of George Cantu, Marisol Ramirez, and Araceli Valdez – Obituary
George Cantu, 27, along with his cousins Marisol Ramirez, 18, and Araceli Valdez, 23, were killed during a domestic shooting in Slaton, Texas, on the night of January 11. George Cantu also died in what authorities are investigating as a double capital murder-suicide, leaving two others critically injured.
Police reported that the incident occurred at a residence on 335 E. Floyd Street around 10:52 p.m. Cantu, armed with a handgun, entered the home following disputes with his common-law ex-wife, Jasmine Rivas, 24. Investigators say he shot and wounded Rivas and Isaiah Chapa, 20, before fatally shooting his cousins Marisol Ramirez and Araceli Valdez. Cantu then died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
Rivas and Chapa were transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries, and both remain in serious condition. Authorities noted that alcohol was involved in the incident.
The Slaton Police Department has handed the case over to the Metro Crimes Unit, which is continuing the investigation into the tragic event.
