Indianapolis, Ind. Man Gary Gatewood Jr. Arrested in Marion County for Fatal Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. — Gary Gatewood Jr., a 21-year-old resident of Indianapolis, was arrested in Marion County in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night on the city’s south side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Gatewood was taken into custody on Thursday after officers responded to a reported shooting around 8:24 p.m. in the 5000 block of Shelby Street. Authorities say the incident stemmed from a family disturbance inside a residence. Officers initially encountered a man who reported being shot by a family member, though the bullet only struck his clothing. Police then discovered a woman inside the home who had been shot and killed.

Gatewood was transported to a local detention facility and is currently facing charges related to the fatal shooting. Police stated there is no ongoing threat to the community.
