Fatal Houston armed robbery crash death of Jaylen Reed – Obituary

Jaylen Reed, 22, a rookie safety for the Houston Texans, was fatally involved in a violent armed robbery on January 4 that escalated into a police pursuit and a major crash. The incident began when Reed arrived at his west Houston home and was confronted by three masked men armed with rifles.

According to court and police records, the suspects demanded valuables from Reed’s home. Two of the assailants fled in Reed’s vehicle while the third ran on foot.

Officers later located the stolen car and initiated a traffic stop, which led to a pursuit ending near Ella Boulevard and Rushcreek Drive. The stolen vehicle crashed, one suspect was arrested, and two patrol vehicles were damaged, including one that caught fire.

Montreal Dwayne Frye, 20, was taken into custody and faces multiple felony charges, including evading arrest with a vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Frye was already on felony probation at the time of the incident. The other two suspects remain at large.

Authorities described the robbery as particularly aggravated, noting that Reed may have been targeted due to his status as a professional athlete. The investigation into the fatal event is ongoing.
