Fatal Charlotte car crash death of Lance Andreas Jesus Sotelo – Obituary
Lance Andreas Jesus Sotelo, 25, was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in the 3300 block of The Plaza in Charlotte, North Carolina. Emergency responders pronounced Mr. Sotelo dead at the scene after discovering him seriously injured in the roadway.
Police said the vehicle responsible, later identified as a white Chevrolet Impala, ran a red light at East 36th Street while traveling southwest on The Plaza and hit Mr. Sotelo before fleeing. Officers, detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit, members of the DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search personnel responded to the scene to investigate.
On Thursday, Jan. 15, 28-year-old Q’Laundra Kadri Hood, the driver of the Impala, turned herself in at the Hickory Grove Division. After being interviewed by detectives, she was taken into custody by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Ms. Hood faces multiple charges, including felony hit and run, involuntary manslaughter, driving without a license, and failing to stop at a red light. Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash, but there is no indication that impairment played a role for either Ms. Hood or Mr. Sotelo.
Authorities have notified Mr. Sotelo’s next of kin, and the investigation remains active. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Sessoms or submit tips anonymously through Charlotte Crime Stoppers.
