Fatal Kansas City shooting death of Lucas Long – Obituary

Lucas Long, 15, was shot and killed on January 8 in a parking lot near Monroe and E. Meyer Boulevard in Kansas City. Police say the fatal shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. following a confrontation at an apartment complex.

Authorities discovered Long unresponsive at the scene and pronounced him dead shortly thereafter. No suspect has been publicly identified in connection with the homicide.

This marks Kansas City’s third homicide of 2026, with a total of five reported in the first two weeks of the year. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Long’s death.
