George Elbert King, a 72-year-old man from Abingdon, Virginia, has died following a serious farm accident involving a skid steer in north Georgia, officials confirmed.

The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at a farm located along Calhoun Falls Road in Elberton. According to authorities, King was operating or working near a skid steer when the accident happened, causing severe injuries.

First responders treated King at the scene before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further medical care. Despite those efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, the Elbert County Coroner’s Office reported.

Elbert County Coroner Chuck Almond identified King as the victim and said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still being reviewed. The sheriff’s office is assisting with the investigation.

Officials expressed sympathy to King’s loved ones as they continue working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
