Fatal Manhattan, Illinois car crash death of Makenna M. Maurisak – Obituary

Makenna M. Maurisak, a 24-year-old resident of Manhattan, Illinois, lost her life following a serious collision involving a passenger vehicle and a school bus near the village. Authorities confirmed her identity after the deadly incident occurred on a roadway just outside the community.

According to information released by the Will County Coroner’s Office, Maurisak was driving along Manhattan-Monee Road near School House Road when her vehicle struck a school bus head-on during the morning hours. Illinois State Police reported that she was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The school bus driver and ten students who were riding the bus at the time were transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox as a precaution. Officials said they were taken for medical evaluation, and no life-threatening injuries were reported.

In response to the incident, the mayor of Manhattan issued a statement expressing concern over recent fatal crashes on state-managed roads in the area. The statement noted that village officials have repeatedly urged the Illinois Department of Transportation to address safety issues and that some traffic improvements were made after meetings with state officials late last year. Local leaders say they will continue pushing for further changes to reduce the risk of future accidents.

The coroner’s office stated that an autopsy was scheduled, and the final cause and manner of Maurisak’s death will be determined following that examination. The crash remains under investigation by state authorities.
