Patrick T. Funderburk, a 50-year-old man from Conway, Arkansas, lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on a Louisiana highway, according to state police. Authorities confirmed his identity following the deadly incident in Natchitoches Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop E said the crash occurred late in the evening on January 14 along Louisiana Highway 174. Investigators determined that Funderburk was driving a 2006 Toyota 4Runner westbound when the vehicle exited the roadway for reasons that have not yet been determined.

Police reported that the SUV traveled down an embankment, overturned, and then caught fire after the impact. Funderburk was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

Officials said it is unclear whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. As part of standard procedure, a toxicology sample was collected and submitted for further analysis.

The crash remains under investigation as state police continue working to determine the factors that led to the fatal wreck. Authorities also reminded drivers to remain attentive while traveling, noting that even brief lapses in focus can result in tragic outcomes.
