Makenna M. Maurisak, 24, of Manhattan, Illinois, was killed Thursday morning in a collision involving a school bus, authorities confirmed. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in southeastern Will County.

The accident occurred on Manhattan-Monee Road near Kankakee Street, just west of Schoolhouse Road. Illinois State Police and local authorities reported that Maurisak was driving a passenger vehicle that collided head-on with a Manhattan School District 114 bus carrying 10 students. Emergency responders immediately arrived, but Maurisak succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Students on the bus and the bus driver were evaluated at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, though no life-threatening injuries were reported. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including factors leading to the collision.

Maurisak’s family and the community mourn the loss of the young woman, whose life was tragically cut short in the incident.
