Yaiset Almeida Ceregido, a 52-year-old resident of Odessa, Texas, was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle collision on SE Loop 338, authorities confirmed. Ceregido was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of SE Loop 338 and Southfork Avenue. Investigators said Ceregido’s eastbound Toyota Corolla was slowing to turn onto Southfork Avenue when it was struck from behind by an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado. Officials noted that the Corolla did not have the required rear lights at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Silverado sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene. DPS continues to investigate the crash to determine all contributing factors.

Family, friends, and the Odessa community are mourning the loss of Ceregido, whose life was tragically cut short in this fatal accident.
