Curtis Carr, 54, a Brentwood resident, was killed Monday morning in a motorcycle accident on Vasco Road, authorities confirmed. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office released his name on Friday.

The crash occurred around 5 a.m. just north of Dyer Road as Carr was riding south. According to the California Highway Patrol, he lost control of his motorcycle, which veered into the northbound lane and struck a guardrail. Carr was thrown from the bike and landed down an embankment, suffering fatal injuries at the scene.

Emergency responders, including officers and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews, spent more than 20 minutes locating him. The motorcycle traveled a considerable distance after hitting the guardrail and eventually blocked the northbound lane, causing a major traffic backup that lasted about three hours.

Authorities have not released details on what caused Carr to lose control of his motorcycle.
