Fatal Coalmine, Arizona incident death of Maleeka “Mollie” Boone – Obituary
Maleeka “Mollie” Boone, an 8-year-old girl reported missing from the Navajo Nation, was found dead less than a day after she disappeared, authorities in northern Arizona confirmed.
The Navajo Police Department said the search for Maleeka “Mollie” Boone ended tragically on Friday after extensive efforts by multiple law enforcement agencies. Officials did not immediately release details about how she died.
Investigators from the FBI and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation are now leading the case, working alongside tribal police and other agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death.
Search operations were concentrated in the Coalmine Canyon area, where law enforcement from the Navajo Nation, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Marshals Service assisted. Authorities placed the Coalmine area under lockdown as the investigation continued, asking residents to remain indoors.
The FBI also established a command post near the scene to coordinate investigative efforts.
Maleeka “Mollie” Boone was last seen Thursday around 6 p.m. playing near Cedar Loop in the Coalmine housing area, roughly 17 miles southeast of Tuba City. Family members told authorities it was highly unusual for her to be away for so long, prompting the issuance of a Turquoise Alert early Friday.
Officials are urging anyone with information related to her disappearance or death to contact the FBI or the Navajo Police Department’s Tuba City District as the investigation remains ongoing.
