Fatal Manhattan, Illinois school bus crash death of Makenna M. Maurisak – Obituary

Makenna M. Maurisak, a 24-year-old woman from Manhattan, Illinois, was tragically killed in a head-on collision involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle on Thursday morning. Authorities confirmed her identity after the fatal crash occurred near the intersection of Manhattan Monee and Kankakee Roads at 8:17 a.m. CT.

According to the Manhattan Fire Protection District, the bus, which was transporting students from Manhattan School District, was involved in the crash. Maurisak, the driver of the passenger vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by Illinois State Police.

The Will County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Friday to determine the cause and manner of death. Meanwhile, the bus was carrying 10 students and a driver. Although the students and driver were evaluated at the scene, they were transported to nearby hospitals due to the severity of the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with Illinois State Police leading the inquiry.
