Aidan Knowles, a teenager from De Soto, Kansas, was killed early Saturday morning in a shooting outside the Hawk, also known as the Jayhawk Cafe, in Lawrence. The incident occurred around 2 a.m., police reported.

His father, Bobby Knowles, confirmed Aidan’s death on social media, stating that his son “was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Aidan graduated from De Soto High School in 2025, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and working on cars, and had plans to pursue a military career. He was also devoted to his younger sisters and close family.

Another 16-year-old was injured in the shooting but survived and is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Two suspects are currently held in the Douglas County Jail on $1 million bonds, facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Lawrence police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
