Lisa O. Fitts, 40, tragically lost her life in a car crash in Etowah County, Alabama, on May 21, 2025. Authorities reported that Fitts was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her brother, Kevin A. Owens, when the car left the roadway and struck a culvert, eventually overturning and colliding with a house.

Fitts was pronounced dead at the scene. Owens, 36, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Owens has been indicted on a charge of reckless murder in connection with his sister’s death. He was initially booked in the Etowah County Jail but has since posted bond. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains active.
