Savannah Alice Hawkins dies in fatal Sampson County hit-and-run
Fatal Sampson County hit-and-run death of Savannah Alice Hawkins – Obituary
Savannah Alice Hawkins, 17, was killed Saturday evening in a hit-and-run accident in Sampson County, North Carolina. The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on U.S. Highway 421 near Josephus Road, just outside Harrells.
Authorities reported that Hawkins entered the northbound lane when she was struck by a burgundy 2011 Ford Fusion owned by 50-year-old Antoinette Worrell of Rose Hill. Despite her family’s attempts to save her, Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
Worrell has been charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death, failure to report an accident, and driving while her license was revoked. She remains in custody at the Sampson County jail and is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday morning.
