Fatal Phoenix shooting death of Danny Kaster – Obituary
Danny Kaster, 52, died after being shot during a confrontation at a Phoenix-area gas station, authorities confirmed. Danny Kaster succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital following the shooting earlier this month.
Police said the incident occurred just before 8 a.m. on January 16 at a QuikTrip near 44th Street and Oak Street. Officers arriving at the scene found Kaster lying on the floor outside the men’s restroom. He had been shot multiple times and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
According to investigators and court records, the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the restroom related to a line for bathroom stalls. Witnesses reported that another man allegedly bypassed those waiting, leading Kaster to speak up about the line. The exchange escalated into a verbal dispute before both men exited the restroom area.
Moments later, gunfire was heard. Surveillance footage and witness statements indicated that Kaster was shot multiple times outside the restroom. Several people inside the store attempted to assist him once they realized he was injured.
The suspected shooter, identified as 25-year-old Deondre Franklin, fled the scene but later contacted family members and admitted to being involved in the shooting. He turned himself in to police the following day.
Franklin told investigators that he believed he was acting in self-defense, claiming he felt threatened during the confrontation. Authorities, however, arrested him in connection with the shooting, and he was later booked on a charge of second-degree murder.
Following Kaster’s death, family members and friends created a memorial outside the gas station to honor his life, remembering him as a devoted brother, uncle, friend, and animal lover. A fundraiser was also established to assist with funeral expenses as his loved ones continue to grieve.
