Fatal Dakota County, Minnesota crash death of Berlyn Berghuis – Obituary

Authorities have identified the teen killed in a collision with a semi‑truck near Northfield as 16‑year‑old Berlyn Berghuis of Northfield.

The crash happened Monday afternoon at about 3:23 p.m. at the intersection of 320th Street and Foliage Avenue in Greenvale Township, Dakota County. Preliminary investigation by the sheriff’s office indicates the 2012 Lexus Berghuis was driving attempted to turn east onto 320th Street when it was struck by a westbound semi‑tractor‑trailer.

Deputies found both occupants of the Lexus unresponsive at the scene. Berghuis, the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 16‑year‑old passenger, identified as Anabelle Martinez, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries and remains under medical care.

The truck driver was not injured. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol, continues to investigate the crash.
